Beeldenstroom, City of Wetteren (BE)

Beeldenstroom as a project is the result of a unique cultural collaboration between four municipalities along the river the Scheldt: Berlare, Laarne, Wichelen and Wetteren.

For the content of this exhibition Pieter Vermeersch collaborated with amateur photographers from the four municipalities, who were commissioned to make a portrait of someone from their own municipality. This resulted in 40 black and white portraits that can be seen during the summer months in a small exhibition in 't Veer on the village square of Schellebelle.

Pieter Vermeersch than selected eight photos from that series. He edited them, gave them color, reworked them, manipulated them, cast them in the four basic colors for printing and gave them a monumental format. In the end there were 152 images, all 3.5 by 2.5 meters in size.

They were than scattered along the banks of the Scheldt and the Kalkense Vaart, over a distance of 18 kilometers, spread over Wetteren, Laarne, Wichelen and Berlare.

Beeldenstroom was a project that attracted a lot of casual visitors, recreational passers-by who, on a summer day, cycled on the towpath along the Scheldt.
